L'Aquila remembers devastating quake 10,000 gather at candlelight ceremony for 309 victims

Roughly 10,000 people gathered early Friday in the center of L'Aquila for the anniversary of the earthquake that struck the central Abruzzo region three years ago, killing 309 people and leaving tens of thousands homeless. A candlelight ceremony was held at 3:32, the exact time the tremor shook the city that is still in ruins.

More than 50 nearby towns also suffered extensive damage. A bell was tolled as the name of each L'Aquila victim was read.
